Egypt
A giant statue of Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II has been discovered in a Cairo slump by archaeologists from Egypt and Germany.
The eight metre tall statue depicts the pharaoh who ruled Egypt more than 3000 years ago.
“We discovered parts of a temple of king Ramses II which includes the entry and the columns which accompanied it. Before this temple we found the bases of the columns and we have discovered today the statue which was on this spot. It probably represents Ramses II. It is 8 metres tall.”
Nicknamed the builder in particular because of the numerous temples which he constructed like that of that of Abu Simbel, Ramses II is also considered by some historians as the pharaoh who reigned during the Exodus, a biblical period recounting
how Moses led the Egyptians out of Egypt.
Archaeologists have announced that they are going to pursue their research.
Ancient Egypt, which fascinates many people throughout the world, is far from unveiling all its secrets.
